Thirteen Famous Quotes About Love

Ah, Valentine’s Day, the highly commercialized and pricey Hallmark holiday for lovers. A day of greeting cards, flowers, heart-shaped boxes of chocolate, romantic dinners, and sparkly jewelry. A day poets and philosophers come out of the woodwork. A day that sends women not in a relationship into depression. And a day that will land many men in the dog house for forgetting or otherwise messing up by not getting her exactly what she wanted.

In honor of this day, here are thirteen famous quotes from poets, authors and philosophers, about love. I wish you a day filled with love and romance, and I’ll keep my fingers crossed that you get it right. *g* Happy Valentine’s Day!

“Love is composed of a single soul inhabiting two bodies.” –Aristotle

“At the touch of love and heart, everyone becomes a poet.” –Plato

“Love is a canvas furnished by nature and embroidered by imagination.” —Voltaire

“If music be the food of love, play on.” –William Shakespeare

“The heart has its reasons, which reason does not know.” –Pascal

Have a heart that never hardens, and a temper that never tires, and a touch that never hurts.” —Charles Dickens

“All, everything that I understand, I understand only because I love.” Leo Tolstoy

“The irresistible desire to be irresistibly desired.” —Mark Twain

“True Love stories never have endings.” —Richard Bach

“If you have it [love], you don’t need to have anything else, and if you don’t have it, it doesn’t matter much waht else you have.” —Sir James M. Barrie

“Accept the things to which fate binds you, and love the people with whom fate brings you together, but do so with all your heart.” —Marcus Aurelius

“To fear love is to fear life, and those who fear life are already three parts dead.” —Bertrand Russell

“There is no remedy for love but to love more.” —Henry David Thoreau

Be careful out there today. Cupid is out and about with his arrows and you may not enjoy being shot!
