What’s America’s top female action star doing on a tropical island shrouded in secrecy? To Gina Bliss, competing in a survival-type reality show is a nice change from fending off on-screen villains. Until she meets real-life action hero Derek Marks. A survival specialist in a tight black T and sexy stubble, he’s arousing every bad-boy fantasy she’s ever had…and testing her survival skills to the max.
Martial arts, jungle warfare – Derek’s done it all. But his latest mission is more dangerous than a stick of dynamite. Try telling that to the sexy, adrenaline-pumped actress who’s got his libido racing off the charts. As the heat rises between them and real-life violence erupts, suddenly Derek and Gina are on the run…and when they uncover a secret so explosive it could blow the lid of their so-called reality show, these two unlikely heroes are about to discover what surviving’s really about….
This is a great, fast-paced paranormal thrill ride with a high level of sexual tension. Gina, the heroine, is a kick-ass alpha who can stand toe-to-toe with the bad-ass hero, Derek. It’s fresh and original, fun and hot. Jaci Burton is an excellent story-teller. I’ve read most of her books, and loved them all.
There were a few things I found disconcerting when reading, and I debated about even mentioning. Now don’t boo me. The following is just one reader’s musings. *ducking rotten tomatoes thrown by rabid fanatics*
First, Gina was so into her career at the beginning, but later she didn’t even consider her life or career when deciding to join in with the demon hunters. She never debated, or gave it any thought. Then there’s how completely she was against doing television, but again gave in so easily. These little nitpicky issues of mine did not make it any less of a wonderful read. They just hit me as being contradictory and out of character. The hero did end up addressing the career/life issue with Gina.
Overall, Surviving Demon Island is a great read that will keep you turning the pages. I enjoyed the wild ride and recommend it to any paranormal or action lovers. I’m definitely looking forward to reading the next book in the series, Hunting the Demon.
You can find the book at Amazon.com

I’ll comment, Nic. I’m not sure why anyone would throw rotten tomatoes your way. It was a glowing recommendation. You had a few issues, you dealt with them. You said yourself it didn’t keep you from reading it, you didn’t throw it against the wall, or flush it down the toilet. I haven’t read it yet, mostly because I haven’t had a chance to get to a bookstore yet, but it’s definately on my list! Thanks.
Definitely would not have thrown it against the wall. I was too engrosed in reading the book.
I haven’t had the pleasure of reading it yet and I don’t think this was a bad review at all, the opposite in fact.
I so wish I could come up with words like you do. *bg*
Thanks, Christine! I find it very difficult to come up with adequate words to express my feelings about a book.
